We Win, Internet →
At least for now :) At the end of the day, piracy needs to be addressed. The real issues behind SOPA & PIPA are zombies that will rear their heads again sometime in the future. But hopefully the legislative branch has learned a valuable lesson. As alluded to in some poignant signs from protests yesterday, it’s no longer ok for them to not know how the internet works. I’d like to...

Can I just say...
that today is a really freaking exciting day to work for the internet, right at the intersection where public policy meets lolcats. I was lucky enough to watch google.com/takeaction grow and develop on the inside, and it was an absolutely insane process.  It actually doesn’t matter where you take action, make calls to senators, or sign petitions. It’s not just about Google today...

MPAA Responds to SOPA Protests →
soupsoup: The following is a statement by Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the Motion  Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA) on the so-called “Blackout Day” protesting anti-piracy legislation:  “Only days after the White House and chief sponsors of the legislation responded to the major concern expressed by opponents and then called for all parties to work cooperatively together,...

“Android phones aren’t as simple to use as the iPhone, but they’re not that much...”
– Steve Wozniak Woz often diverged from Jobs. He wanted Macs to be easily upgradable, Jobs didn’t. Same reason he likes Android.  One of the things that drove Jobs nuts was how he thought Google stabbed him in the back with Android, he felt they stole a lot of the iPhone technology from him and...

Policy By The Numbers →
My team started a blog a couple of weeks ago, I think those of you interested in the future of the internet - particularly from a policy perspective - should read up. It’s not enough to run around policy circles debating issues driven by interest, it’s time to make data-driven policy decisions and reform some of these debates by injecting interesting, thought-provoking numbers into the...

Mark Whitaker: I was.
Stephen Colbert: Okay, for some of my younger viewers, what was a “magazine”?

Cross posting from G+, Louis CK & SOPA
A healthy rant/rave on Louis CK’s brilliant, profit-generating, user-driven stunt that proves SOPA supporters just don’t get it. & fwiw, I don’t care about this just because I protect the internet for a living (super dope!), but genuinely think this is an important issue. Find me on G+!

That girl: "It Worked In China." →
almightysempai: Want a window into the minds of our opponents? Former Senator Chris Dodd — head of the Motion Picture Association of America — says that China censors its Internet, so we can too: “When the Chinese told Google that they had to block sites or they couldn’t do [business] in their country, they…

Louis CK: Live at the Beacon Theater Statement →
naternet: I bought this special, though for reasons beyond my control, I haven’t watched it yet. (just not in the mood/busy/wife hates Louie CK) So I’m not going to sit here and tell you all to go pick it up because it’s awesome, even thought I have no reason to think that it’s not. Dude’s got a very solid track record of being very, very funny. What I would like to say is that I really like...

popculturebrain: He took to his website to write, “12 hours [after the special’s noon launch on Dec. 10], we had over 50,000 purchases and had earned $250,000, breaking even on the cost of production and website. As of Today, we’ve sold over 110,000 copies for a total of over $500,000. Minus some money for PayPal charges etc, I have a profit around $200,000 (after taxes $75.58). This is...

I Work For The Internet →
staff: We work for the Internet. And we’re guessing many of you do too. Whether it’s researching, selling, coding, supporting, designing — so many of our careers depend on the Internet. One argument that’s been made to Congress is that the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) is needed to protect American jobs. In truth, the new liabilities this bill would impose on startups could stop American...

Online Piracy Act: Would It Help Business or Kill... →
The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) is stirring up a lot of controversy in the tech world. Companies that rely heavily on copyright protection call the bill piracy protection; those that rely on user-generated content call it censorship. The bill strengthens the U.S. Justice Department’s power…
